Residents in parts of the Hinterland are being warned to expect smoke haze with a hazard reduction burn getting underway today.

The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service will conduct the burn in the Lamington National Park as part of its annual management program.

“The aim of this burn is to reduce the volume of forest fuels in sections of Lamington NP to create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas,” QPWS said.

“This will help reduce the intensity of any subsequent bushfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration.”

Smoke is expected to impact areas in the southern section of the national park including Binna Burra, Beechmont, Illinbah Valley, Canungra and O’Reilly.

QPWS is urging residents in those areas to close windows and doors.

People with respiratory or other health problems should keep their medications close by.
