LATEST @ 1.45PM | More than 20 fire crews continue to battle an out-of-control grass fire on the northern Gold Coast.
The massive Pimpama blaze has engulfed over 40 hectares of land and is starting to burn towards swampland.
It erupted along Greenmeadows Road and Kerkin Road in Pimpama around 6.30am on Friday.
Multiple waterbombing aircraft are working alongside firefighters to douse the area as the fire rages on.
Crews have begun back-burning in the area to try and prevent the flames from spreading even further.
Thick smoke is blanketing the area, with residents urged to remain indoors, close all windows and doors and not to drive through the smoke.
Households in the vicinity of Pimpama, Willowvale, Upper Coomera, Jacobs well and Ormeau are likely to be affected.
Thankfully, there is no direct fire threat to properties at this time.
The reduced air quality may cause health impacts for some people.
EARLIER @ 10.50AM | A smoke alert has been issued for residents on the northern Gold Coast due to a raging grass fire in the area.
The fire erupted along Greenmeadows Road and Kerkin Road in Pimpama around 6.30am on Friday, with 19 fire crews currently working to bring the blaze under control.
Another 18 crews are en-route to help battle the flames, with three waterbombing aircraft also attempting to douse the blaze.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokesperson told myGC the fire has spread to more than 15 hectares of land.
Smoke is currently affecting Pimpama and surrounding areas, with residents warned reduced air quality may cause health impacts for some people.

Locals are being urged to stay indoors and to close all windows and doors.
Motorists are also being told to avoid driving through smoke where possible and to be aware of firefighters working in the area.
Paramedics are standing by in support of firies, however, there’s been no reports of any injuries at this stage.
