The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for southeast Queensland.

Damaging winds and large hailstones are expected to impact parts of the Gold Coast, Scenic Rim and Logan areas.

“At 3:30 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near the area south of the NSW border,” BOM says

“These thunderstorms are moving towards the northeast,

“They are forecast to affect the McPherson Range and Canungra by 4:00 pm and Springbrook, Numinbah Valley and Mount Tamborine by 4:30 pm.”

“Damaging winds and large hailstones are likely.”

Impacted residents are urged to move their car under cover or away from trees, secure loose items and beware of fallen trees and powerlines

The next warning from BOM is due to be issued by 4:40 pm.
