LATEST @ 4.45pm: The Bureau of Meteorology has upgraded its severe thunderstorm warning with intense rainfall now expected to lash parts of South East Queensland, including the Gold Coast.
Very dangerous thunderstorms were detected on the radar for parts of Logan, Scenic Rim and the Gold Coast.
The Bureau warns that intense rainfall may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding.
“At 4:40 pm, very dangerous thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Tamborine,” BOM said.
“Very dangerous thunderstorms are forecast to affect Jimboomba by 5:10 pm.”
BOM says 81mm of rainfall has been recorded in the 1 hour to 4.30pm at Bromfleet, which is located between Boyland and Tamborine.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it’s flooded, forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

EARLIER @ 4.10pm: A severe thunderstorm warning for heavy rainfall continues across parts of South East Queensland, including the Gold Coast.
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that heavy rainfall could likely lead to flash flooding.
“At 4pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Beaudesert and Mount Tamborine,” BOM warns.
“They are forecast to affect Nerang and Tamborine by 5pm.”
The heavy rainfall will impact parts of Logan, Scenic Rim and the Gold Coast.
The Bureau says the thunderstorms are slow-moving.

EARLIER@ 3.30pm: Parts of South East Queensland, including the Gold Coast, are still being warned of a severe thunderstorm with heavy rainfall.
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that the heavy rainfall will impact parts of Scenic Rim and Gold Coast areas.
BOM says it is likely heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding.
“At 3:30pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Canungra and the area south of Canungra,” BOM warns.
“They are forecast to affect Numinbah Valley by 4pm and Beaudesert, Little Nerang Dam and Mount Tamborine by 4:30 pm.”
It’s understood these thunderstorms are slow-moving.

EARLIER @ 3.00pm: A severe thunderstorm warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for parts of South East Queensland, including the Gold Coast.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, “severe thunderstorms” were detected on the weather radar near Lamington National Park and the area south of Canungra.
BOM is warning that it is likely heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding.
It’s understood these thunderstorms are slow-moving.
“At 3pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar,” BOM warned.
“They are forecast to affect Laravale and Canungra by 4pm.”
