The Gold Coast is urged to tie down loose items and park cars under shelter with a severe thunderstorm likely on the way.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued their thunderstorm forecast for today, with damaging winds and and large hail likely to be hazardous.
A severe thunderstorm is likely for the Gold Coast, and across the southeast including Brisbane and Sunshine Coast.
A weather warning has not been issued, however, the Bureau will be keeping a close eye on the severity of the storms as they come in.
It comes as the parts of the southeast were lashed with storms overnight.
Over a 6 hour period there were over 140,000 lightning strikes – which is roughly 7 strikes a second.
Most of the damage was seen in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, with the Gold Coast escaping the worst if it.
