Several Gold Coast Catholic school teachers and staff will walk off the job tomorrow, as part of a state-wide planned protest.
More than 4,000 staff from 106 Catholic schools across Queensland are taking strike action, including workers from Marymount College in Burleigh Heads and St Augustine’s Parish Primary School in Currumbin Waters.
The Independent Education Union (IEU) members claim they are experiencing a “workload crisis”.
Terry Burke, from IEU Qld and NT Branch, says employees have no choice but to rally.
“Queensland Catholic school employers have failed to take the steps needed to protect working and learning conditions in their schools,” Mr Burke says.
“We have a workload crisis in our schools that needs to be addressed,
“Meanwhile, support staff in Queensland Catholic schools are still paid outdated and unfair wage rates.”
The staff will walk off-site Wednesday morning with campaign placards.
