It’s a dark day for the Gold Coast, with funerals being held for the pilot who lost his life in last week’s horror helicopter collision and the victims of a shocking Gold Coast Hinterland crash.
Hundreds are expected to turn out for the funeral of Sea World Helicopters Chief Pilot Ashley Jenkinson at the Southport Church of Christ at 2.00pm this afternoon.
The 40-year-old father was one of four people who died when two choppers collided at the Southport Broadwater last Monday.
British couple Ron and Diane Hughes and Sydney woman Vanessa Tadros were also killed in the collision.
Mr Jenkinson’s funeral will follow an earlier service for Bonogin crash victims, mother and daughter Susan and Steffanie Zimmer.
The pair, who died when the car they were traveling in was hit by another vehicle allegedly evading police, will be farewelled at the Mudgeeraba Showgrounds from 10.30am this morning.
It’s not yet been revealed when Susan’s partner Chris Fawcett, who was also killed in the collision, will be laid to rest.
The driver alleged to have been responsible for the shocking crash, Uiatu “Joan” Taufua, remains behind bars charged with three counts of manslaughter, dangerous and unlicensed driving and evading police.
The case will return to court in March.
