One of the city’s favourite events SeaFire returns to the glitter strip this weekend and those behind the iconic showpiece have revealed locals and tourists are in for a real treat this year.
The much-loved fireworks competition will light up the skies of Surfers Paradise tomorrow night, with tens of thousands of people expected to pack the foreshore.
Two world-renowned pyrotechnic teams from Sweden and Germany will be competing for the coveted title, with their dazzling shows to kick off at 7pm and 8pm
The display will be accompanied by a vibrant musical soundtrack which will be simulcast on 102.9 Hot Tomato for nearby residents to listen to while they watch on at home.
Australia’s leading pyrotechnic team, Skylighter, will then close out the night with a breathtaking fireworks finale at 8:50pm.
“SeaFire has become one of our city’s most highly anticipated events for both locals and visitors with thousands of people expected to set up on the beachfront and enjoy the show,” Acting Mayor Donna Gates said.
“Since the inaugural SeaFire in 2012 we have seen over half a million spectators enjoy the event and this year it’s going to be bigger and better than ever.”
The Surfers Paradise Beachfront Markets will also be running along the foreshore from 4pm and DJ, Pia Pressure will keep the crowds entertained from 6pm.
Motorists are being reminded the Esplanade will be closed from 2pm Friday between Hanlan Street and Soul roundabout.
Those attending the free spectacle are strongly encouraged to avoid driving and instead catch the tram to Cavill Avenue, with increased services being put on to keep up with demand.
