New figures show the Gold Coast’s population has now surpassed 600,000 while women still outnumber men.
The latest Census data shows the city’s population hit 625,027, that’s up almost 70,000 since the last survey done in 2016.
Women make up 51.5 per cent of the population with men making up 48.5 per cent.
The average age of residents on the Gold Coast is 39, up from 38 five years ago.
The number of families has risen from 145,416 to 167,929.
But there’s been no change to the average number of children per family which stands at 1.8.
There’s been a slight increase in the number of couples with no children which make up 40.2 per cent of families.
The number of private dwellings in the city has increased from 238,991 to 270,261 but the average number of people per household is down slightly to 2.5.
The Census shows the average household income hasn’t been keeping pace with the cost of living with an increase of around $200 a week in the last five years to $1691.
Renters are now paying an average of $450 a week compared to $390 in 2016 while average mortgage repayments remain unchanged at $1950 per month.
The percentage of married people on the Gold Coast is down slightly to 43.8 per cent of the population but the percentage of divorcees is steady.
We’re now doing more household chores than we did in 2016 with 67.3 per cent saying we did unpaid domestic work in the week before the Census.
A majority of Gold Coast residents report doing between 5 and 14 hours per week.
Gold Coasters have been ditching religion with the number of people identifying as having no religion rising from 31.8 per cent to 43.2 per cent.
That’s well above the national average of 38.9 per cent.
