A former Gold Coast police officer has died after allegedly being attacked by another patient at Robina Hospital.
Nine News reports Kevin Farr was assaulted by an elderly dementia patient while in his hospital room last month.
The alleged attack reportedly left the 68-year-old with a serious head injury and bleeding on the brain, leading to his death a day later.
Safety measures at the hospital are now reportedly under review, however the hospital insists it was staffed accordingly at the time.
“The incident occurred on a ward accustomed to caring for dementia patients and was staffed accordingly,” A Gold Coast Health spokesperson said.
“No staff members or other patients were injured in this isolated incident.
“The safety and wellbeing of our patients and staff remains our priority.”
