A fresh round of consultation on Light Rail Stage Four is set to begin amid accusations the previous state government failed to tell locals about some of the major impacts of the project.

The Gold Coast Highway from Burleigh to Coolangatta was identified by the previous government as the preferred route for the project.

But the link remains under a cloud amid concerns about the potential cost and opposition from local residents, with a new review underway by the new LNP government.

Stage Four is estimated to cost between $3 billion and $7 billion.

In launching the latest public consultation, Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie has revealed up to 235 properties may have to be resumed if the current plans for Stage Four go ahead.

The Highway route could also result in the loss of more than 1000 carparking spaces.

The current review is looking at all possible routes and modes of transport with the government saying everything is on the table.

“The Crisafulli Government is committed to ensuring residents are consulted, following the disdain shown to their community by the former Labor Government,” Mr Bleijie said.

“Despite 235 properties being at risk of resumption and the loss of over 1000 local carparks, the former Labor Government deliberately kept residents in the dark.

“Through this consultation process, we will ensure locals are informed of the proposed impacts on their community so they can have an informed say about the future of this project.”

Consultation will run for six weeks until May 2.
