Some traffic reprieve for motorists who use the Gold Coast Highway with construction on Stage 3 of the Light Rail to pause over Christmas.

Lane closures on the busy roadway through Broadbeach to Burleigh are being removed for three weeks from December 15.

It means there will be two lanes open in each direction for traffic.

Construction on the Lower Gold Coast Highway in Burleigh Heads will be paused for an extra week, with workers not returning to the site until January 15.

Residents are being encouraged to take advantage and support local businesses on the line of construction during this time.

The ‘Shop Local and Win’ price is being boosted to $5,000 in December to celebrate.

GoldlinQ CEO Phil Mumford says it’s the perfect time to shop, eat, drink and stay along the alignment.

“With lane closures being removed and works being paused, it is easier for people to get in and do their Christmas shopping and have end-of-year catch-ups with friends and family,” he says.

“We are hoping this pause in works will encourage as many people as possible to support local businesses along this strip during this period,

“We have some of the city’s best hospitality venues and excellent retail stores and accommodation along the alignment.”

Stage 3 of the Light Rail is a 6.7km extension of the tram south of the existing  network to link Broadbeach South and Burleigh Heads.
