Authorities fear dangerous surf conditions, mixed with the hot weather expected on the Gold Coast this weekend, could be a recipe for disaster.

Lifeguards have again issued a warning about the importance of swimming during patrolled hours and between the flags following the death of a woman at Main Beach this week.

The woman’s body washed up on the shore at the Spit around 9am on Tuesday.

The suspected drowning is the fourth in the South East in just nine days, and the second on the Gold Coast in less than a week.

A 66-year-old Hungarian tourist also died after being pulled from the water at Broadbeach last Thursday.

Beach conditions across the coast are expected to remain rough over the next few days, with authorities urging anyone heading out for a dip to take extra care.

“Hot weather conditions over the weekend will likely see thousands of people flock to our beaches to cool down,” Chief Lifeguard Chris Maynard said.
