We’re being told not to be alarmed after the discovery of a crocodile on the Gold Coast.
The baby freshwater croc was discovered by two men near Mudgeeraba on Sunday night.
The pair contacted the Department of Environment with rangers collecting the croc on Monday.
A spokesman from the department said it’s believed the animal was around two months old and was in good health.
An investigation into where the crocodile came from is now underway.
“The animal is believed to either be an escaped pet or to have been illegally taken from the wild,” the department said in a statement.
“Anyone with information is encouraged to contact DETSI on 1300 130 372. Information can be provided anonymously.
“Freshwater crocodiles are native to Queensland, but their natural habitat is in rural areas in central, western and northwest Queensland.
“The Gold Coast is not considered to be freshwater crocodile habitat.”
