The Gold Coast is set to receive a much-needed tourism boost following the chaos of the Christmas holiday storms.

The Queensland Government is set to inject $2.5 million into the local tourism sector in a desperate bid to help the battered industry bounce back.

The money will be used for 50,000 vouchers, which both visitors and locals will be able to use on a variety of tourism experiences across the city.

Dubbed the GC Summer FUNds initiative, Premier Steven Miles said the money will be critical to continue supporting businesses, particularly theme parks, which were severely impacted.

Top Golf in Oxenford remains closed to the public after suffering catastrophic damage during the natural disaster, while Paradise Country is finally set to reopen on January 26 after undergoing a major clean-up and repairs.

According to Experience Gold Coast, the unexpected severe weather events are estimated to have decimated the city’s peak tourism trading window with projected losses in the millions.

More information on the voucher initiative is expected to be revealed by the State Government later this morning.
