Plans for a $300 million hotel proposed for Movie World have officially opened for public consultation today.
Gold Coasters are being urged to have their say on the project, which has been put forward by Village Roadshow Theme Parks for their Oxenford site.
According to the plans, the 22-storey hotel will feature 600 rooms, along with a bar, restaurants, infinity pool, sky deck and function centre.
Councillor William Owen-Jones said a decision on the future of the hotel will be made later in the year following public comment.
“It is a fact that the application will be carefully considered against the current City Plan; it will come before Council later in the year for a decision,” he said.
“Hotel accommodation is an expected outcome for the “Major Tourism” zone (this application will supersede an existing approval for a hotel on site).
“Issues such as traffic, visual amenity, parking, hours of operation will all form part of the town planning officer’s assessment”.
If given the green light, the project is expected to create close to 800 jobs during construction and 400 full time positions in the first five years once its up and running.
Village Roadshow also expects it to be a major tourism drawcard for the city, injecting an estimated $840m into the economy.
Consultation will run until March 13.
