Extra police have arrived on the Gold Coast for a major crackdown on local crime.

‘Operation Whiskey Legion’ has been deployed with dozens of Brisbane police joining forces with local officers on the ground to target a range of issues including robbery, assault, domestic violence and theft.

Police will be saturating the coast’s public areas including transport hubs, party precincts and shopping centres.

It’ll also focus on undertaking search warrants and traffic operations.

The operation had recent success in Logan and Ipswich, where 429 people were charged on 895 offences.

Superintendent Peter Miles says it’ll supercharge local efforts on the Gold Coast.

“We’re bringing crime op detectives down so they know how to take care of files, we’re bringing down our public safety response team who knows how to knock doors in if we need to drag somebody out,”

“So the resources that they bring with them, they’re very equipped, which will complement our resources quite well.”

The operation kicks-off today for ten days.
