LATEST @ November 8 | A man has been charged after he allegedly threatened police with a loaded revolver during a terrifying stand-off with officers on the Gold Coast.

Police were called to Karen Avenue in Mermaid Beach around 6.20am on Tuesday after witnesses reported seeing a man slumped over in a parked car.

Upon arrival, the 32-year-old man is alleged to have jumped out of the vehicle before grabbing a female officer and threatening her with a gun.

“As police were speaking to the man in question, he grabbed one of the officers and brandished a firearm and threatened both of the officers,” Inspector Kayleen James said.

The man eventually let the officer go before he tried to make his escape by attempting to carjack a number of innocent motorists in the area.

He was unsuccessful, with police managing to take him into custody a short time later.

“I’d like to say that I’m very proud of the officers’ actions here today. They are well trained, they are experienced, it was a very confronting situation,” James said.
