Police have confirmed they’re investigating a nasty crash that shut down a Southport road for five hours early this morning.

It happened just after 12.30am, when a Honda Accord lost control while driving southbound along Ferry Road.

According to a Gold Coast police spokesperson, the vehicle then crashed into a traffic island, gutter, and a pole near the intersection of Durham Street.

The impact of the crash brought the pole and cables down across the roadway.

Officers blocked off the road as energex crews were called in to repair the damage, with traffic diversions put in place until around 5.30am.

The driver of the vehicle, a 29-year-old Mermaid Waters man, was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital withminor injuries.

Investigations are ongoing.
