Police are appealing for help to identify a man allegedly responsible for a horrific assault on a woman in Southport.

The 44-year-old was returning to her car on Hill Street around 11.30am on Monday, July 8 when she allegedly caught a man going through her vehicle.

“The woman approached the man who kicked her a number of times before fleeing the scene,” Queensland Police said.

The woman suffered swelling and bruising to her leg, while the man took off on an electric scooter.

The man remains on the run, with detectives appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

He is described as Caucasian in appearance, around 175cm tall, with a slim build and was wearing a black hoodie, navy pants, a tan cap and a black backpack.

Police are also appealing for anyone who may have been involved in similar incidents to inform officers as investigations continue.
