A Police officer has been injured after allegedly being assaulted by a 15-year-old girl at a home in Mermaid Waters.

Officers attended the Compass Court property just before 11pm on Sunday after tracking a car that had been stolen from Brisbane.

A woman had allegedly taken the car, which had been advertised for sale on Gumtree and Facebook, for a test drive last Sunday and never returned it.

The vehicle was then allegedly involved in a number of offences across Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Acting Superintendent Bruce Kuhn says the car was tracked to Mermaid Waters before a group of juveniles and some other people were found at a nearby house.

“A scuffle occurred out of that interaction which resulted in one of the Police officers being assaulted by a juvenile,” Acting Superintendent Kuhn told the ABC.

The juvenile, a 15-year-old girl from Maroochydore, is accused of punching the officer in the face during the arrest.

She has since been charged with one count of assault police and will appear in Southport Children’s Court.

A 21-year-old woman from Mermaid Waters was also arrested and charged with a string of offences including unauthorised use of a motor vehicle, possess dangerous drugs, possess utensil, possess tainted property and contravene direction.

The woman was also arrested by virtue of an arrest warrant relating to a number of alleged stealing and fraud incidents in Brisbane, mostly related to opportunistic crime and theft from gyms.

A 30-year-old Mermaid Waters man was also arrested and charged with one count of possess dangerous drug, four counts of stealing and one count of unauthorised use of a motor vehicle.

Both are due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.
