THREE new state-of-the-art helicopters will soon be added Queensland Police’s POLAIR fleet.
Treasurer Cameron Dick confirmed on Monday morning the state had secured three brand new Bell 429 helicopters as part of a decade-long deal.
“These are the eyes in the sky at will help protect Queenslanders through to the Olympics in 2032 and beyond,” Mr Dick said.
“This is high-tech help from above to keep the streets safe below.”
The new agreement will also see the Gold Coast’s POLAIR base moved from next Carrara to the Southport Airfield.
“That will improve operational capability for POLAIR and particularly allow the choppers to et off the ground faster,” Mr Dick added.
Queensland Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll said the choppers were welcome addition’s to the force’s fleet.
“They’re modern, state of the art,” she said.
“It will improve range, efficiency, safety and overall capability .. and also reduce noise levels.”
The new helicopters will join the fleet in 2024 and replace the two existing choppers.
