UPDATE @ 12.45 PM | A MAN has been charged with murder following the discovery of a 74-year-old woman’s body at a home in Molendinar overnight.

Police made the grim find inside a Macquarie Avenue property around 8.40pm on Sunday.

According to Acting Chief Superintendent Rhys Wildman, officers attended the house after a 50-year-old man raised the alarm with neighbours.

“The 50-year-old male attended a dress nearby and reported that a woman was significantly injured,” Acting Chief Spt Wildman said.

The man, who lived at the property but was not related or in a relationship with the woman, was taken into custody at the scene.

He has since been charged with murder and is due to face Southport Magistrates Court this afternoon.

Detectives remain at the property this afternoon processing the crime scene as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death continue.

Police are continuing to appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

EARLIER @ 8.00AM | A man is being questioned by Police after the discovery of a woman’s body at a home in Molendinar.

Police were called to a property on Macquarie Avenue in Molendinar at 8.40pm on Sunday night where they discovered the body of the 74-year-old woman.

“A male attended a residence and raised the alarm of a woman that was significantly injured. As a result, police attended, emergency services responded and unfortunately located a deceased 74-year-old woman inside that address,” Acting Chief Superintendent Rhys Wildman told the ABC.

A 50-year-old is in custody and is assisting Police with inquiries.

Police say the death, at this stage is not believed to be domestic-violence related but the pair are known to each other.

Charges are yet to be laid.
