Gold Coast families are welcoming the addition of a brand-new play attraction, officially opened today at the Broadwater Parklands.

The ribbon was cut on Thursday morning on the $5-million project, which spans 5,000 square metres and features equipment for all abilities.

The playground, located on the northern end of the Broadwater, features a four-level spiral tower with interactive play equipment, as well as a water and sand play area.

Play panels, swings, slides, trampolines and climbing walls also add to the area – as well as shade sails and plenty of BBQ’s.

Mayor Tom Tate says it’s part of a $120-million investment in the Gold Coast’s parks and community spaces.

“Our 2,300 parks are a massive drawcard for locals and visitors and I’m proud to add another incredible space to that growing list,” Mayor Tate says.

“With new barbecue facilities, picnic areas and state-of-the-art play equipment – this attraction is just one piece of the puzzle that is supporting the liveability and vision of this city.”

Division 6 Councillor Brooke Patterson says it’s so important to have free activities like this for local families.

“I think families will be so delighted to have another amazing free day on the Gold Coast,” Cr Patterson.

“To be able to take the kids out for a very special occasion know you can bring your own picnic, and it’s no cost.”

The park is designed for all abilities and has a range of elements that engage with the environment.

An open day event will be held on Saturday 20 August at Fisherman’s Lawn from 9am to 2pm.
