Drivers on the southern Gold Coast are being warned there will be some changes to how they get around, with a busy M1 exit set to close for good tonight.

Exit 93 southbound will be permanently shut down from 8pm as works continue on the State Government’s $1 billion upgrade from Varsity Lakes to Tugun.

The exit is best known for giving locals easy access to The Pines shopping centre and Palm Beach Currumbin State High School.

However, residents around Palm Beach and Elanora are being assured there will be minimal disruption to their usual routes, with a new eastern service road opening in its place.

Exit 92 will also be expanded to deal with the increase in traffic.

“For motorists heading to Sarawak Avenue, they will take the Exit 92 off-ramp,” Transport and Main Roads said.

“Continue along a dedicated service lane that is immediately adjacent to, but separated from, the M1 by a concrete barrier, and exit at the signalised intersection at Sarawak Avenue”.
