The Gold Coast has scored another sporting coup with the Matildas set to play on the Glitter Strip.

Arguably Australia’s most loved sporting team, the Matildas will take on Olympic silver medallists Brazil at C-Bus Stadium on Sunday, December 1.

It’s part of a two-game series with Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium to host the opening clash on November 28.

It will be the first time the Matildas have played on the Gold Coast and comes after the Socceroos’ first game in the city earlier this month.

“This is incredibly exciting news for Gold Coast football fans right off of the back of the Socceroos match,” Experience Gold Coast CEO John Warn said.

“The fact we’ll get to see the Matildas play on the Gold Coast for the first time is so exciting and continues to reinforce our status as a sporting epicentre.”

Acting Gold Coast Mayor Donna Gates says it’s enormous for the city.

“They’re on the comeback trail after the Paris campaign but remain national sporting treasures and we’re expecting a full house on December 1 at C-Bus and can’t wait to cheer them on,” Councillor Gates said.

Up to four Gold Coasters are expected to be a part of the Matildas side for the games, including Tameka Yallop.

Yallop says she can’t wait to play at home.

“I’m obviously super excited,” Yallop said.

“I remember back to when Tom Sermanni was our Head Coach and I first made the team. We used to have camps on the Gold Coast all the time, and I honestly thought it was the best.

We’ve never played a game there, so this is just overwhelmingly exciting.”
