Gold Coast football fans will have the chance to get together and watch the Matildas massive World Cup semi final, with the Mayor confirming a live site will be set up in Surfers Paradise.

It will be staged at the end of Cavill Mall on the foreshore for the Wednesday night showdown against England.

“We will have a huge outdoor screen for diehard Matilda fans … and the Poms of course!’’ Tom Tate said.

The Mayor said the site was ideal given traffic diversions are already in place in the area for this weekend’s Pacific Airshow.

“My advice is: take the G:Link, walk, cycle or use other public transport,’’ he said.

“Motorists needing to drive have plenty of options with public carparks, off-peak street parking and hotels offering parking within their premises.

“The weather will be perfect and so will the result.

“I’m predicting a 2-1 win for the Matildas.’’

Councillor Darren Taylor said the Surfers foreshore would be alive with fans.

“We have the Wednesday street markets and the live site underway. I urge Gold Coasters to get out and about, support our Matildas and spend a few dollars in our Surfers Paradise restaurants and pubs.’’

The site will open from 5pm ahead of the game starting at 8pm.
