Mass power outage blacks out traffic lights, lifts on Gold Coast

A massive power outage has hit the Gold Coast, causing havoc on local roads and trapping people in lifts.

The outage struck just before 8am on Tuesday, cutting power to more than 2200 homes and businesses in Southport and Labrador.

The cause of the blackout remains unknown, with Energex confirming crews are on scene investigating.

The outage has cut power to lifts, with multiple reports of people becoming stuck in apartment towers in the suburb.

Motorists are also being urged to drive with caution, with several traffic lights on flash.
