Hundreds of residents and tourists in Surfers Paradise have had a terrifying early morning wake-up call after a high-rise fire forced them to evacuate.
The inferno erupted on the top level of the Hilton Hotel along Surfers Paradise Boulevard just before 2am on Friday.
Photos captured by witnesses show the blaze engulfing the roof, with embers raining down and sparking several other blazes on the balconies and streets below.
Multiple fire crews rushed to the scene and managed to have the flames out by 2.40am.
They deemed the area safe before allowing all of those evacuated to return.
Thankfully no one was injured.
It’s not yet known what sparked the blaze, with investigations into the cause ongoing.
