A manhunt is underway after a group of thieves smashed their way into a service station in Nerang early this morning.

Police allege four offenders used hammers to smash through the front glass doors of the servo along Gilston Road just before 3am.

Once inside, they then used the weapons to smash into the cigarette cabinets to steal a stash of cigarettes.

They then fled the scene in a vehicle and remain at large this morning.
