A major manhunt is underway after a wild cross-border chase ended in a dramatic crash on the Pacific Motorway.
Tweed-Byron Police first began tracking the stolen Land Rover Defender in Murwillumbah in Northern NSW around 4.00pm on Sunday.
They were then joined by their Queensland counterparts once the vehicle crossed the border into Queensland.
It was there the stolen Land Rover allegedly smashed into a Highway Patrol vehicle by reversing into it on the M1 off-ramp at Currumbin.
The officer suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The driver of the stolen car fled the scene on foot and remains on the run this morning, with a large search underway on both sides of the border.
Investigations are ongoing.
