A man remains in a critical condition in hospital after rolling a convertible in a horror crash in Southport.
A Mercedes convertible lost control and flipped outside the fire station on Southport Nerang Rd around 1am on Sunday morning.
The 52-year-old was trapped underneath the vehicle and had to be freed by emergency services.
He had suffered serious arm and leg injuries and was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital where he remains.
Police say the man is very lucky to still be alive.
“Because it was a convertible the vehicle was basically on top of him. There wasn’t a lot of structure there to protect him,” Senior Sergeant Scott Muldoon said.
“So he was trapped there, they had to lift that vehicle to get him out from underneath it.”
Police are also investigating links between that crash and an earlier incident on the same road at Molendinar just minutes earlier.
A parked Suzuki Swift had been clipped but the vehicle responsible did not stop.
Police are now appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact them.
