A man has been refused bail over a shocking attack on a woman on a Gold Coast tram.
Cayden Jay Mollone, 20, is alleged to have thrown a 63-year-old woman to the ground after he boarded the tram near Griffith University on Saturday morning.
He’s then accused of punching her and stomping on her head while attempting to steal her handbag.
Mollone fled the tram a short time later after another tram passenger intervened, running to a nearby bus stop.
He was later arrested after getting off the bus near Harbour Town.
The 20-year-old was charged with serious assault and robbery and fronted Southport Court on Monday.
He was refused bail with his case to court on November 17.
Superintendent Rhys Wildman has described the event as “extremely concerning.”
“These are very rare events that occur but still extremely traumatic for those involved,” Supt Wildman told the ABC.
Friends of the alleged victim have told myGC she remains in hospital with fractures to her ribs and spine.
