UPDATE: A man has been charged with arson after a blaze destroyed a houseboat off South Stradbroke Island.

Emergency services were called to Thomson’s inlet on the Gold Coast Broadwater just before 7pm following reports of a boat on fire.

The houseboat was well alight when crews arrived.

A 55-year-old man was located a short time later on a nearby vessel with minor burns.

He was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment before being charged with one count of arson.

He is due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court today.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses, or anyone with relevant vision or information, to come forward.

Police say no one was living on the vessel that was destroyed.

EARLIER: A man has been injured after a houseboat went up in flames off South Stradbroke Island.

Emergency services were called to the island around 6.40pm on Monday.

The vessel was completely engulfed in flames with the blaze even spreading to nearby mangroves.

Paramedics were transported to the island with the help of Police, QFES and Volunteer Marine Rescue.

A man had suffered minor burns and an arm injury in the blaze.

He was taken back to the mainland before being transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Investigations into the blaze are continuing.
