LATEST @ February 7: A man pulled from a pool at a backpackers in Surfers Paradise has died.
The 29-year-old was found under the water at the Maxmee Resort off the Gold Coast Highway around 10.45am on Monday.
He was given CPR by first responders before being rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
A Queensland Police spokesperson has confirmed he has since sadly passed away.
EARLIER @ February 6: A man is fighting for his life following a near-drowning at a popular backpackers in Surfers Paradise.
The 29-year-old was pulled from a pool at the Maxmee Resort off the Gold Coast Highway around 10.45am on Monday.
Queensland Ambulance Service operations supervisor Paul Young said the man was underwater for at least two minutes.
“On our arrival, there was a 29-year-old male patient who had been pulled out of the pool, apparently he had been under for two minutes plus,” he said.
“His heart was not beating, nor was he breathing on his own.
“The people who pulled him out started CPR straight away while someone made a triple-zero call to the ambulance service.”
He was then treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.
“He is still in a very critical condition this afternoon,” Mr Young said.
