LATEST @ 5.00 PM | Police have confirmed an elderly man has died after being hit by a four-wheel drive at a petrol station on the Gold Coast this afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to the Liberty service station at the intersection of Millaroo Drive and Millennium Circuit around 1pm, following reports a pedestrian had been struck.

Upon arrival, they found an 87-year-old man suffering critical injuries.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics, but sadly could not be saved.

The 57-year-old male driver of the 4WD managed to escape uninjured, but he was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital where he was treated for shock.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

EARLIER @ 2.00 PM | There are grave fears for an elderly man who was hit by a 4WD at a petrol station on the northern Gold Coast this afternoon.

The man, believed to be aged in his 80s, was struck at the Liberty service station, near the intersection of Millaroo Drive and Millennium Circuit, just before 1.00pm.

He suffered critical injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics, including the High Acuity Response Unit.

The driver of the vehicle was also assessed by paramedics and has since been taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital suffering shock.

Investigations into the crash are continuing, with the Forensic Crash Unit currently on scene.

There are no further details available at this time.
