LATEST @ 5.45PM | A swimmer has died after drowning in the surf at Main Beach, in a tragic ending to the Gold Coast’s holiday season.
The man in his 20’s was swimming with two other mates when they got into trouble at The Spit just before 4pm Thursday.
Paramedics rushed to the scene and attempted to revive him, however, he sadly could not be saved.
His two male friends, also in their 20s, witnessed the tragedy unfold.
They’ve been transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in stable conditions.
The incident occurred approximately half a kilometre from the sand-pumping jetty.
EARLIER @ 4.35PM | Emergency Services have rushed to Main Beach with three swimmers pulled from the surf.
The mass incident is currently unfolding at The Spit, with paramedics called to the scene just before 4pm.
One person, whose age and gender is unknown, is fighting for life in a critical condition.
Two men in their 20s have been transported to the Gold Coast University hospital in stable conditions.
Multiple crews are currently on the scene.
