Three people have been hospitalised after Australia Day celebrations turned violent on the Glitter Strip overnight.

The first happened just after 9.30pm, when a woman became involved in a verbal stoush with another person.

It happened on the corner of Elkhorn Avenue and Surfers Paradise Road.

The woman, aged in her 30s, suffered facial injuries in the alleged assault and was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

A Queensland Police spokesperson told myGC no one had been arrested at this stage, with investigations ongoing.

Meantime, a 31-year-old man has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm after getting into a scrap with two people at a location off The Esplanade just before midnight.

The pair suffered minor injuries and were taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

The man has been bailed to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on March 22.
