A man has been remanded in custody after allegedly bashing and robbing another man in Broadbeach, leaving him in hospital with serious head injuries.
Emergency crews were called to the vicinity of Main Place around 9pm on Friday following reports a 52-year-old man had been robbed and assaulted.
“Police will allege the man approached the victim and produced a weapon, demanded the victim’s property, and allegedly assaulted the victim at the same time of making these demands,” Queensland Police said.
Following patrols of the area, police located the 43-year-old alleged offender and took him into custody.
“Further searching of the area has also located the stolen property,” the police spokesperson said.
The man was transported to the Southport Watch House where he was charged with one count of robbery whilst armed and one count of contravening a police banning notice.
He fronted Southport Magistrates Court on February 15, where his bail was opposed with the case to return to court on March 4.
The victim, who suffered serious facial injuries in the incident, was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the robbery or has relevant CCTV or dashcam to come forward.
