A man has been charged over an alleged stabbing in Surfers Paradise that left a man with serious injuries.

Police say the alleged victim and a friend were approached by a male and female outside a barber shop on Orchid Ave around 2.30am on Sunday.

An altercation broke out before another male jumped out of a nearby car and allegedly stabbed a 20-year-old Palm Beach man in the back.

He was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital while the three people left the scene in a black Holden Commodore before Police arrived.

The car was later found abandoned on Precision Drive in Molenindar after hitting a parked vehicle, with three people taken into custody a short time later.

The victim remains in a stable condition in hospital

“I understand he may undergo further surgery today so (a) very serious injury,” Superintendent Mark Mooney told the ABC.

A 21-year-old Victorian man has since been charged with one count each of commit public nuisance, and acts intended to main.

He was refused bail to front Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.

A second person remains on the run but Police are confident of tracking them down.

“Investigations will continue today to locate this person. We have recently been able to identify them so we’re just making inquiries to locate them.

“We don’t believe there are any concerns to the community. We believe this person is not from the Gold Coast.”
