A man has been charged over the alleged brazen daylight stabbing of a woman outside Pacific Fair shopping centre on the Gold Coast.
The 32-year-old man allegedly approached a 21-year-old woman along Hooker Boulevard in Broadbeach just after 8.30am on Saturday.
“The man started a conversation with the woman before allegedly producing a knife and wounding the woman,” Queensland Police said.
The man then fled the scene on foot, sparking a major manhunt.
The young woman was treated by paramedics for wounds to her neck and shoulder before being taken to Robina Hospital.
Following investigations and a public appeal for information, the man was tracked down and arrested at a home in Miami later that night.
He has since been charged with one count each of unlawful stalking, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, and possession of a knife in a public place.
He has also been slapped with possessing dangerous drugs, failure to properly dispose of syringe, possession of utensils for use, and unlawful possession of weapons (knuckleduster).
Police have confirmed the man and woman were not known to each other.
He will appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.
