A man has been charged after allegedly robbing a popular Gold Coast tavern at knifepoint.

The 31-year-old is accused of threatening staff at Helensvale Tavern around 5.15pm yesterday.

He then allegedly forced his way into a cash register, before fleeing on foot with a wad of cash towards Brisbane Road.

Following a six hour manhunt, the accused was tracked down in Southport and arrested.

The Biggera Waters man has been charged with armed robbery, obstruct police and possession of a prohibited medicine.

He’s due to front Southport Magistrates Court today.
