LATEST @ April 19: A man has been charged following a lengthy siege in the Gold Coast suburb of Benowa.
Officers attended a home on Naranja Crescent around 7.20am on Tuesday to speak to a man who was wanted for questioning.
The man allegedly refused officers’ requests to exit the home before making threats, sparking a dramatic stand-off with dozens of Police, including heavily armed officers.
The 33-year-old from Brisbane eventually surrendered overnight.
He has since been charged with one count each of obstruct police officer, unlawful possession of medicine, possession of false number plate, possession restricted item, authority required to possess explosives.
The man’s bail has been refused and he is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.
EARLIER @ April 18: Parts of a Gold Coast suburb have been locked down as Police attempt to negotiate with a man holed up inside a home.
Officers attended a home on Naranja Crescent in Benowa around 7.20am on Tuesday to speak to a man who was wanted for questioning.
The man allegedly refused officers’ requests to exit the home before making threats.
Dozens of Police, including heavily armed officers are now attending the incident.
Police negotiators are also on the scene.
Naranja Crescent and Marbella Drive in Benowa have been blocked off with people urged to avoid the area.
Police say the incident has been contained to the home and there is no threat to neighbouring properties.
