A Brisbane man has been charged after allegedly robbing a young couple at knifepoint on the Gold Coast.

The 40-year-old is accused of confronting the man and woman, both aged 23, whilst they were walking along Ferny Avenue in Surfers Paradise just after 10pm on Tuesday.

He pulled out a steak knife and allegedly demanded the pair hand over money.

It’s understood the couple told the man to put the knife down, to which he did, before they handed over a small amount of cash.

The man then left the scene but was later tracked down by police in a nearby loading dock.

He was arrested and has since been charged with armed robbery and fail to take reasonable precautions and care in relation to a syringe.

He will face Southport Magistrates Court today.
