A man has been charged with a string of offences following a dramatic crash in Nerang.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Crusader Way and Centurion Crescent around 11.30pm on Wednesday following reports a Mazda 6 had crashed into a fence.

The driver of the vehicle, a 40-year-old man, allegedly fled the scene on foot before police arrived on scene.

He was tracked down by officers a short time later and taken into custody.

The man has since been charged with driving under the influence, driving without a driver licence, driving without due care, possession of a knife, and possession of a restricted item (baton).

He is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.
