A man has spent the night in the watchhouse after allegedly breaking into a Gold Coast fire station.
The 43-year-old Brisbane man is also alleged to have assaulted police during the dramatic ordeal, which began just after 10am on Sunday.
According to police, the man attempted to steal property from the Surfers Paradise Fire Station, but was confronted by workers who tried to detain him until police arrived.
The man managed to break free, but was located a few streets away a short time later where it’s alleged he assaulted an officer by kicking him.
He was eventually taken into custody and charged with break and enter, wilful damage, assault police and two counts of obstruct police.
The man will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today.
