An alleged drunk driver who blew just over three times the legal alcohol limit is lucky to have escaped serious injury after crashing his car in Broadbeach this morning.
Police rushed to the intersection of Elizabeth and Darling Avenues just before 5.00am this morning, after receiving a call from a member of the public who watched the chaos unfold.
It’s alleged the Mitsubishi Lancer crashed into a median strip, travelling across the garden bed before coming to rest on the Gold Coast Highway tram lines.
The 26-year-old driver managed to escape injury but was arrested at the scene after allegedly blowing 0.161, just over three times the legal limit.
The man, from Silkwood, has been given a notice to appear for did drive under the influence of liquor and driver to have proper control of a vehicle.
He is due to face Southport Magistrates Court on August 23.
