A man has spent the morning in hospital after suffering a snake bite on the Gold Coast.

The man called triple-zero at around 2.30 this morning and was picked up along Hammond Drive in Gaven.

A QAS spokesperson said he had suffered the bite to his leg in bushland earlier in the evening.

He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition for further treatment.

It’s unclear what species was involved.

It comes as local snake-catchers warn residents to be on-alert with the snake season kicking-off a little earlier than usual.

It’s thanks largely to changes in the weather system due to the El Nino event.

There’s also been a spike in deadly snakes being spotted across the coast.

A handful of eastern brown and red-bellied black snakes have been snapped at popular areas including in community spaces and backyards.

One was even found sunning itself at Currumbin Alley beach amongst the sand and rocks earlier this week.
