A man and a woman have been charged, accused of assaulting a man on a bus and stealing Christmas presents he had just bought.
A 20-year-old man was travelling on a bus to Southport on Saturday afternoon after going Christmas Shopping at Harbour Town.
The pair was allegedly confronted by the couple as the bus approached Southport with the male punched in the face before the pair fled with a stack of presents.
The victim reported the incident to Southport Police who immediately contacted Gold Coast Council who tracked the pair via the city’s CCTV network.
“Police were then deployed to the location and we ended up finding both of the offenders, they were actually hiding in a unit complex in Figtree Lane,” Chief Superintendent Craig Hanlon told the ABC.
“We arrested both of them without incident and we seized all of the property that was stolen.”
A 34-year-old Hope Island man and a 40-year-old Palm Beach woman have been charged with armed robbery, possessing tainted property and drug offences.
They remained in custody over the weekend to front Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
