A man has been taken into custody following a massive crash into a power pole on the Gold Coast which left hundreds of homes without power.
The vehicle careened into a power pole at the intersection of Oxley Drive and Marsupial Drive in Runaway Bay around 11pm Wednesday night.
The impact of the collision snapped the beam of the pole, sending it crashing into the ground, resulting in more than 300 nearby properties losing power for hours.
The 36-year-old Paradise Point man, allegedly behind the wheel, was taken into custody at the scene.
It’s understood police are investigating whether drink-driving was a factor.
No charges have been laid at this stage.
Northbound traffic along Oxley Drive was closed for a number of hours while the scene was cleared and the powerlines made safe.
More to come.
